Please check opening hours of the Kingston Cafe & Bar prior to booking as they are run separately to the train and have limited opening hours.

The Kingston Flyer has recently been fully restored and is now ready to roll! Cruise along the open scenic plains of the majestic Kingston to Fairlight track in historical carriages pulled by our restored AB795 Class Steam Locomotive. Surrounded by mountains and expansive farmland the Kingston Flyer offers a round trip excursion, with spectacular scenery from the Kingston Train Station on the shores of Lake Wakatpu, to the newly renovated Fairlight Train Station adjacent to the mighty Mataura River.

The Kingston Flyer will be operating public train rides most Sunday. Tickets are $75 for adults, $65 for a pensioner (concession), $25 for children (5-16yrs), children 4 years and under are FREE (infants). The trip is a 1.5 hour return trip departing Kingston Train Station. Passengers will travel on a 35minute trip to Fairlight Train Station. Once there they will be asked to disembark for 20 minutes while the AB795 Steam Locomotive turns around. While at Fairlight passengers can use the amenities, take photos, watch the train turn around, purchase merchandise, and enjoy complimentary tea and coffee. Planning an event or special occasion? Directions

Kingston is a breath taking 45 minute drive from Queenstown via State Highway 6. The winding drive meanders past the foot of The Remarkables and the Hector Mountains while following Lake Wakatipu to its eastern edge. The turnoff is easily spotted from the main highway, simply follow the main road (Kent Street) all the way to the Kingston Flyer Cafe & Bar where our friendly train staff will be waiting to greet you. Free parking is available outside the cafe located near the Kingston Foreshore.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy

The Kingston Flyer has a 2 day cancellation policy allowing guests to cancel or reschedule up to 2 days prior from the time and date of their scheduled train ride. If you cannot travel because you are directly impacted by Covid-19 restrictions and regulations you will be offered the option to reschedule your experience or a refund. All bookings, booking changes, refunds and cancellations must be made via our online booking agent BookIt NZ. You can contact them direct on support@bookit.co.nz or 0800 003633 during business hours Mon-Friday 9-5pm for further information. We ask guests to respect this policy.

General Terms & Conditions

By completing your booking with us it is accepted that you agree to our terms and conditions. Your booking is considered completed once we have received full payment. All transactions are conducted in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). Kingston Flyer Ltd (and associated companies) reserve the right to amend timetables and cancel departures at any time. Our coaches are smoke-free and alcohol free zones, no smoking or drinking will be permitted onboard.
