Hokitika has a superb 18 hole links golf course with very reasonable green fees. Club hire is available at the motel. Courtesy car is available to and from airport if required.

Hokitikahas a great array of arts and craft shops. The Hokitika River is just metres away from the motel and a stroll down the river will bring you to the beachfront. When you go there take a fishing rod we have had a few salmon caught recently and a lot of kawhai when they are running.

The West Coast Wilderness Cycleway has recently opened. Base yourself at Heritage Highway Motel in Hokitika and do the several legs at your leisure. The cycleway is only 20 metres from the door if you want to start from the motel.

Just minutes traveling to the South will bring you to the only Treetop Walkway in New Zealand and is well worth a visit. 50 and 80 minutes further South you will find the White Heron Sanctuary and Franz and Fox Glaciers. 30 and 70 minutes North you can go to Shantytown and The Punakaiki Pancake Rocks.

Other natural free attraction such as Lake Mahinapua, Lake Kaniere, Hokitika Gorge, Hokitika beachfront and all the walks in the district are well worth visiting.
